Can You Keep Your Heart Open?

We’re all on a journey discovering who we are and sometimes the best opportunity to see ourselves is through interactions with others. Life situations are always a chance to discover who we are and how we move in this world.

It’s when we get triggered that’s a good time to pay attention. Make a point next time you’re triggered by something someone says or does to:

  • Keep your heart open and respond from a place of love, instead of reacting the way you might usually do.
  • Speak from the heart and let love be the guide. This approach tends to diffuse situations that are charged.
  • Love yourself and others in times of vulnerability.

Challenge yourself to live from a place of love no matter what. Love for your life as it is, love for other beings who are having challenges, love for the opportunity to wake up every day and most of all love for yourself.

Kahlil Gibran the well-known prophet says:

“Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”
